UPDATE: Boat bursts into flames, explodes damaging four vessels; occupant airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a boat fire that occurred at Oak Park Resort and Marina on Sodus Bay in the Town of Huron. Deputies responded to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting a boat explosion in the parking lot.


A 65-year-old man from Webster was cleaning the cabin of his vessel when it burst into flames. He managed to escape but sustained severe injuries and was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital via Lifenet.

The fire damaged a total of four boats. The North Rose, Rose, Wallington, Alton, Wolcott, and Clyde Fire companies, along with Wayne County Medical personnel, assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
