Yankees top White Sox for fifth straight win

The New York Yankees (31-15) extended their win streak to five straight with a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox (14-31) in the series opener on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Nestor Cortes tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one run (unearned) while walking one and striking out six. Ian Hamilton surrendered the other run before Caleb Ferguson and Clay Holmes recorded scoreless outings.


Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton smacked solo home runs. Stanton also drove in another run with a double, and Alex Verdugo chipped in an RBI double.

The Yankees will try to win another series on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. when they hand the ball to Luis Gil.
