Yankees complete three-game sweep of Twins behind Clarke Schmidt’s career day

The New York Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon at Target Field and improved to 30-15 on the season. 

Clarke Schmidt tossed a career-high eight shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out eight. 


Anthony Volpe led off the game with his sixth home run of the season. Gleyber Torres had an RBI double, Anthony Rizzo plated a run with an RBI groundout, Austin Wells added a run-scoring single, and Alex Verdugo chipped in a sacrifice fly.

The Yankees will head back to the Bronx to begin a seven-game homestand, starting Friday against the Chicago White Sox. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
