Assistant Chief Bill DiFabio of the Auburn Fire Department retired on Wednesday after nearly 29 years of dedicated service. A Facebook post from the fire department commemorated DiFabio’s final shift and celebrated his long-standing commitment to the community.

DiFabio joined the department in July 1995, rising through the ranks to become a lieutenant in 2006, a captain in 2015, and finally assistant chief in 2016. In addition to his service in Auburn, DiFabio was a member of the Owasco Fire Department and served as a fire protection specialist in the U.S. Air Force for nine years.

A certified state fire instructor since 1997, DiFabio has taught at the New York State Academy of Fire Science and continues to educate firefighters across the state. “We wish Assistant Chief DiFabio the best in retirement!” the department stated.
