Auburn art gallery temporarily closing for summer construction

  • Staff Report

The Schweinfurth Art Center will temporarily close its exhibition galleries starting May 27 during the construction of the West End Arts Campus. The last day to view the current exhibits, “Expanded Vision: Two Centuries of Paintings from the Cayuga Museum Collection” and “Worth Mentioning” featuring Auburn artist Jesse Kline, is May 26. The galleries will reopen on August 31 with the new exhibit “Beyond the Surface: Contemporary Artists and Printed Textiles,” which will run until October 20.

Despite the gallery closures, the art center at 205 Genesee St. will keep its clay studio, summer art camp, classes, gift shop, and offices open. The clay studio will operate on a modified schedule, open Wednesday through Sunday until July 13, then closed until August 11, after which it will be open Monday through Friday until August 30.

The $4 million West End Arts Campus project, aimed at enhancing the connection between the Schweinfurth Art Center and the Cayuga Museum of History & Art, is expected to be completed by March 2025. For more information and updates on summer events and construction, visit myartcenter.org.
