Two arrested for stealing over $200,000 from elderly pensioner

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly, and New York State Police announced the arrests of Amber Diacetis, 30, and Devin Zielinski, 33, for allegedly stealing over $200,000 from an 86-year-old pensioner. The duo faces charges of grand larceny in the second degree.

Diacetis and Zielinski reportedly convinced the victim, a New York State and Local Retirement System pensioner, to let them manage his finances. Instead, they diverted the funds for personal use, leading to the victim’s home foreclosure, vehicle repossession, and utility shutoffs. The victim lived in squalid conditions until the scheme was uncovered by his family and authorities.

The joint investigation by the State Comptroller’s Office, Rensselaer County DA’s Office, and law enforcement revealed that between January 2018 and August 2023, the suspects withdrew over $200,000 from the victim’s accounts. Both defendants were arraigned in local courts and are scheduled to appear again on June 12.
