Rep. Tenney calls for special counsel to investigate Biden over delayed aid to Israel

  • Staff Report

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) urged U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s decision to delay military aid to Israel. In a letter sent today, Tenney accused Biden of violating the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 by freezing the delivery of bombs appropriated by Congress.

The aid, included in the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, supports Israel’s military operations against Hamas. Tenney asserted that the delay breached legal requirements for deferring budget authorities and demanded immediate action to investigate and prosecute any wrongdoing. She emphasized that the President’s unilateral decision undermined the Constitution’s separation of powers and jeopardized the security of a key U.S. ally.

Tenney called for a response from Attorney General Garland by May 22, 2024. The full text of her letter is available on her official website.
