Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of New York’s paid prenatal leave program during her remarks at the Moms First Summit on Monday. Hochul highlighted the state’s commitment to maternal health and support for working mothers, making New York the first state to offer paid prenatal leave for all employees.

The new initiative allows employees to take 20 hours off for prenatal care without losing income. Hochul emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare for expecting mothers, addressing income disparities that impact prenatal care quality.

Hochul also detailed the state’s comprehensive support for maternal health, including Medicaid coverage for doulas and protective measures for reproductive rights. The Governor’s pro-mom agenda aims to improve health outcomes and provide critical support to families across New York.
