One dead, another serious hurt after truck hits Thruway workers near Exit 46

A tragic incident occurred on the New York State Thruway on May 9th when a tractor-trailer struck two workers, resulting in one fatality and critical injuries. The collision took place at approximately 12:26 p.m. in the town of Chili, as confirmed by the New York State Police.


The tractor-trailer, driven by 64-year-old Thomas J. Lis of Central Square was traveling eastbound when it entered a work zone and hit the workers. A 62-year-old male worker was pronounced dead at the scene, while his colleague, aged 58, was urgently transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Chili-Henrietta-Scottsville Ambulance and remains in critical condition.

The New York State Police are actively investigating the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
