Auburn man found guilty of sexual assault

Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that a jury convicted Gerald Hoffman, 49, of Auburn, on charges of first-degree sexual abuse and attempted rape, both classified as violent felonies. The verdict comes after a three-day trial concerning the forcible sexual assault of a seventeen-year-old girl on September 13th, 2023.

The jury, comprising seven women and five men, began deliberations at 10:00 a.m. and reached a decision by 2:37 p.m. The trial was led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Heather De Stefano with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Amanda Casselman.

District Attorney Antonacci expressed satisfaction with the verdict, highlighting the bravery of the victim in testifying and the diligent efforts of the Auburn Police Department. Hoffman is scheduled for sentencing on August 15th.
