Yankees roll past Astros for fourth straight win

Alex Verdugo collected three hits in five at-bats and four RBI as the New York Yankees rolled past the Houston Astros, 10-3, in the series opener at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Yankees extended their win streak to four games and improved to a season-high 11 games over .500 (24-13).

Verdugo opened the scoring for New York in the first inning with a three-run blast into the right-field seats off Justin Verlander before adding a run-scoring single in the third. Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton also went deep, while Aaron Judge and Jon Berti added RBI singles.

Luis Gil allowed just one hit (a solo home run) over six innings while walking four and striking out five. The right-hander moved to 3-1 on the season. Ron Marinaccio tossed two scoreless before Michael Tonkin surrounded a pair of unearned runs in the ninth.

The Yankees will look to take the first two games of this three-game series on Wednesday with Carlos Rodón on the bump. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
