The Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where Harriet Tubman’s funeral took place in 1913, is slated to open to the public on June 22.
Ahna Wilson, the superintendent of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn, announced the upcoming opening during a meeting with Auburn City Council.
The restoration of both the church and adjacent parsonage, which are integral parts of the historical park, represents a $5 million investment aimed at recapturing the site’s appearance from over a century ago.
The church was originally slated to open last year.
