AGING AND ENGAGING: Presentation highlights social health in Canandaigua

On Friday, May 10, community members will gather at Ferris Hills at West Lake for a presentation called “Aging & Engaging: Benefits of Social Connection.” The event, to be held in Rayburn Hall of the independent living community, starts at 3 p.m. and features Dr. Kim Van Orden from the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Dr. Van Orden, a clinical psychologist and associate professor, emphasizes the importance of maintaining social health in her talk. She describes social connection as a form of medicine and discussed strategies to improve the quantity and quality of social interactions. Dr. Van Orden also will provide attendees with resources, including tip sheets and information on further learning opportunities.

Ferris Hills at West Lake, an affiliate of UR Medicine Thompson Health, is hosting the event to promote awareness about the significance of social ties for aging individuals. No registration is required for the event.
