Wayne County seeks environmental permit for new EMS station in Sodus

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Wayne County is in the process of securing a freshwater wetlands permit from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to construct a new emergency medical services station. The proposed site for the 6,000-square-foot ambulance facility is located at 6654 Route 88 in Sodus. The project involves a disturbance of approximately 1.4 acres within a DEC-regulated Class 2 freshwater wetland and its adjacent area.

To counterbalance the environmental impact, the county has proposed a mitigation plan that encompasses nearly 3 acres. This initiative is part of the requirements to move forward with the construction, ensuring that the wetland’s ecological balance is maintained.

Interested parties are invited to review the application documents and the draft permit at the DEC Region 8 office in Avon, NY. Public comments are being accepted until May 2, with specifics available through the contact person, Frances Knickmyer, at the regional office.
