John Leone Jr., a 52-year-old resident of Elbridge, was arrested along with three others in a significant gun trafficking operation led by the New York Attorney General’s Organized Crime Task Force. Leone faces 21 counts of firearms offenses, including the criminal sale of a firearm, as announced in a Tuesday news release. The operation led to the seizure of three untraceable pistols and an assault rifle among other weapons, all allegedly sold by Leone.

The crackdown, which started in June 2022, resulted in the recovery of 31 firearms, including 18 ghost guns and parts, as well as numerous high-capacity magazines and ammunition. The state’s task force collaborated closely with the New York State Police and Syracuse Police Department, employing surveillance and undercover tactics.

Attorney General Letitia James highlighted the dangers of ghost guns, stating the operation is part of broader efforts to curb illegal gun sales and ensure the safety of New Yorkers. The operation also netted arrests in Brewerton, Syracuse, and South Carolina, emphasizing a committed statewide response to gun trafficking.
