Former Gov. Cuomo to testify before Congress on pandemic nursing home policy

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo has confirmed he will testify before a congressional subcommittee on June 11 regarding his administration’s March 2020 nursing home advisory during the COVID-19 pandemic. This advisory, which prohibited nursing homes from refusing patients based on COVID-19 status, has been a point of controversy. Cuomo has maintained that the policy aligned with federal guidelines from the CDC and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) announced the scheduled testimony, which will be a transcribed interview, marking Cuomo’s response to the committee’s inquiry initiated nine months prior. Wenstrup emphasized the legal implications of dishonesty during the testimony.

Cuomo’s spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, dismissed the significance of the testimony, labeling it as political maneuvering. He referenced previous investigations by the Department of Justice and other bodies that did not lead to charges, suggesting that similar policies in other states had not prompted the same level of scrutiny.
