Dean Cummins, 63, owner of an auction house in Auburn, was ticketed for improper waste management and open burning at a property he owns in Lysander, Onondaga County. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued the tickets after receiving a tip about the activities on April 1.
Upon investigation, DEC officers found remnants of burned solid waste on Cummins’ property. Cummins, who also operates Dean Cummins Storage LLC at the site, initially blamed tenants but admitted he directed an employee to dump and burn the waste. The waste was traced back to his Auburn auction house, and the DEC determined that Cummins routinely used the Lysander site for disposal.
The violations, including operating a solid waste facility without a permit, are set for hearing in Lysander Town Court. Cummins, also the recent buyer of Seneca Riverside restaurant in Weedsport, faces multiple environmental charges.
