The Humane Society of Schuyler County announced its participation in the “Empty the Shelters” event, a nationwide initiative led by the BISSELL Pet Foundation aimed at encouraging pet adoption. From May 1 to May 15, the shelter reduced its adoption fees to $50 for all eligible pets with approved applications, joining over 410 shelters across 43 states in this effort.

Cathy Bissell, the founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation, highlighted the urgent need for adoptions due to the increasing number of animals in shelters, exacerbated by economic and housing pressures on pet owners. The event aims to alleviate the current capacity crisis by facilitating the adoption of thousands of pets.

Prospective adopters were encouraged to thoroughly research pets and understand adoption requirements before committing. Additional information and donation options were available on the BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Humane Society of Schuyler County’s websites.
