Athletic trainers play crucial role in student safety at Victor

As spring sports season ramps up, athletic trainers (ATs) are becoming an increasingly vital presence at practice sessions and games, focusing on the safety of student athletes. In a partnership established years ago between Rochester Regional Health and the Victor Central School District, ATs are now a regular fixture, collaborating closely with coaches, athletes, and their families.

These professionals are primarily engaged in preventing and managing injuries during school sports events. According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, a child suffers a sports-related injury severe enough to warrant an ER visit every five seconds, underscoring the critical role of ATs in such settings.

At Victor Central, common injuries include ankle and knee issues, along with mild traumatic brain injuries like concussions. The school’s athletic director highlighted the importance of having trained medical staff on hand to ensure student athletes receive immediate and effective treatment.
