Seneca Meadows begins work on Environmental Impact Statement for proposed expansion

Seneca Meadows Inc. has initiated work on a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed expansion of its Route 414 landfill in New York, following guidance from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The project could extend the landfill’s operational life until 2040 if approved.

The DEC released a final scoping document on April 10, detailing the necessary issues to be addressed in the EIS, after reviewing over 600 public comments and conducting its own assessment since Seneca Meadows’ initial submission 15 months prior.

The DEC announced that the next round of public comments would commence with the publication of the draft EIS in the ‘Environmental Notice Bulletin’, which is updated weekly on the DEC’s website.

Public involvement is encouraged to ensure comprehensive environmental and health safety measures are considered, including air and water quality, odor migration, and public health impacts around New York’s largest landfill.
