A Van Etten man was arrested for multiple charges after he deliberately reversed his truck onto a Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on April 18, following a police response to a trespassing report on Five Mile Drive in the Town of Ithaca.

According to police, the suspect, 26-year-old Gregory D. Edwards, was in a Ford F150 when deputies arrived and positioned their vehicle behind him. Edwards then accelerated in reverse, crashing his truck onto the hood of the patrol vehicle. The collision nearly breached the windshield while a deputy was inside the vehicle.

Edwards was apprehended and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree trespassing. No injuries were reported among the deputies involved. Additional charges against Edwards are being considered, pending a review by the District Attorney.
