Penn Yan duo face several charges after officers shoved, blocked from arresting person during altercation

Police say a Penn Yan duo was arrested on several charges after an investigation on Liberty Street in the village.

According to a news release, Kevin Kurtz, 32, of Penn Yan was arrested after an investigation into an altercation where an officer was shoved by a woman.

Kurtz is accused of attempting to prevent officers from taking another person into custody, while that person was being placed into a patrol car.

During that time, Kurtz got between the officers and suspect in an attempt to interfere with them being arrested. Kurtz was charged with obstructing governmental administration for his role.

The second person involved in that incident was identified by police as Erika Haight, 31, of Penn Yan. She was accused of screaming obscenities while on a public roadway, and shoving officers while police investigated.

She was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. Those charges will be answered at a later date.
