In a disturbing case of animal neglect, two Farmington residents were arrested on April 5 for abandoning their dogs in harsh conditions. Christopher M.J. Clawson, 38, and Zachary C. Guidarelli, 31, face charges including animal abandonment and cruelty after they left two dogs tied to a tree in freezing weather.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, along with local humane society officials, responded to a call early morning to find two dogs, a Northern Inuit named Anui and an Alaskan Husky named Flush, tied up amidst snow and standing in water. Authorities found the dogs underweight and suffering from malnutrition, prompting immediate medical treatment at a local shelter.

The arrests occurred after an investigation revealed that Clawson and Guidarelli had attempted to give the dogs away at various local businesses before abandoning them. Both men were issued appearance tickets for Farmington Town Court, and the dogs are expected to be available for adoption soon.
