On Wednesday Jorge “George” Rodriguez-Merced, a 30-year-old from Geneva entered guilty pleas to two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony offense, for sexually  assaulting two children under 13 years old.

Prosecutors said the attacks happened multiple times over a span of more than three months. Rodriguez-Merced’s arrest on February 7 was the result of an extensive investigative effort by the Geneva Polcie Department beginning when one child disclosed the sexual abuse to a social worker at school in November 2023.

The case was being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kelly Wolford. Supreme Court Justice Craig J. Doran presided over the proceedings.

“The conviction of Rodriguez-Merced is the culmination of the investigation of Detective Dobies and the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, which ultimately resulted in this sexual predator being brought to justice,” said Wolford. “Defendant’s admission to both Det. Dobies and ultimately to the Court ensured  that neither of these young children will be victimized by this defendant again and  essentially eliminates the possibility of future victims. Defendant took advantage of people who trusted him to sexually abuse their children. Hopefully, defendant’s acceptance of responsibility for his heinous acts will help these children and their  families heal.”

There remains the possibility that there are additional victims of Jorge “George” Rodriguez-Merced who have not come forward, prosecutors said. “Please contact Det. Dobies at the Geneva Police Department if you or your child is a potential victim of Rodriguez-Merced,” officials concluded.
