Major infrastructure projects underway in Skaneateles

Skaneateles, a picturesque village in New York, has undertaken significant infrastructure projects to enhance pedestrian safety, including the replacement of its aging seawall along Skaneateles Lake.

Officials emphasized that despite the seawall’s popularity as a walking spot, it was never intended as such, and the wear from constant foot traffic necessitated its repair.

Last week, the Clift Park side of the seawall saw crucial renovations, funded in part by a $250,000 state grant secured by former State Sen. John Mannion.

The largest of the projects is the replacement of the deteriorating Kelley Street bridge. Originally estimated at $800,000 in 2018, costs have now escalated to $2 million, with federal grants covering 95% of the expense.
