On May 18 the Village of Newark will hold its 18th Annual Community Pride Day, themed “Color our Community with Pride.” Volunteers will gather in the parking lot of T. Spencer Knight Park to beautify the village by cleaning up litter and planting flowers. The community effort will be focused on the canal banks, parks, trails, and streets, with significant cleanups around the historical locks 58 and 59.

During the event, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., residents, school groups, and local businesses will help plant flowers throughout the village, too.

The event, supported by local businesses offering discounts on gardening and exterior products, also features a contest with prizes for the most colorful natural flower displays on business and residential fronts.

Judging for these contests is scheduled for May 20. The initiative aimed to foster civic pride and showcase the community’s volunteer spirit.
