  • Staff Report

Mynderse Academy announced plans to introduce a therapy dog to the school environment, following the approval of Board of Education Policy 4850. The initiative aims to support the emotional and social development of students by utilizing certified therapy dogs within the school.

Research indicates that the presence of therapy dogs can significantly decrease student anxiety, improve anger management, and lessen bullying. The program is designed to enhance empathy, increase academic performance, and boost student confidence and self-esteem.

The therapy dogs, certified through organizations like the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, will be available in various school areas, including the main office and classrooms. Parents wishing to opt-out their children from interacting with the therapy dogs can contact the school. For further details, the school district encourages visiting their policy on the official website.
