New York Mets veteran starting pitcher Sean Manaea entered Saturday’s game having allowed just one run through two starts, but things did not go his way against the Kansas City Royals. The left-hander allowed eight runs (six earned) in 3.2 innings in the Mets 11-7 loss.

Cole Sulser came on in relief and allowed three runs over 1.2 innings, putting the Mets in a 9-4 hole after five innings that they could not climb out of despite a late rally.

Pete Alonso went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo shots and a run-scoring single. He now has six home runs on the season. Starling Marte also tallied three hits, including his second long ball of the season. Brett Baty, DJ Stewart, and Tyron Taylor added RBI.

Box Score

The Mets will try to take two of three from the Royals on Sunday at 1:40 p.m., with Jose Buttó making his first start of the season.
