Two significant building projects in Ithaca suffered considerable damage due to vandalism on March 23.

The Library Place building on Cayuga Street and the Asteri Ithaca project on Green Street encountered tens of thousands of dollars in losses.

The damage involved graffiti, theft of small tools, and a deliberate flooding incident at an unoccupied apartment in the Library Place building, affecting it and the apartment below.

Despite the damages, no residents were harmed as the affected areas were vacant.

The final cost of the damage is pending an insurance review, but officials are hopeful it won’t surpass $100,000.

The vandalism at Asteri Ithaca mainly affected the conference center level, requiring around $50,000 for door and partition replacements.

Both developers have filed police reports and insurance claims, hopeful that the costs will be covered.
