Seneca Falls voters approve sale of firehouse on Lower Lake Rd. by slim margin

In a closely contested referendum, Seneca Falls town voters have agreed to the sale of the Bridgeport Fire District’s firehouse and boathouse located on Lower Lake Road. The March 12 vote ended with 51 supporting and 46 against the sale of these surplus properties, as confirmed by the Board of Fire Commissioners.

The firehouse, positioned at 2528 Lower Lake Road, and the boathouse, directly across at 2535-2545 Lower Lake Road, are both valued at over $100,000. The decision to sell these properties follows the Board of Fire Commissioners’ January determination that they were no longer needed for district operations.

Daniel O’Neil, the Board of Fire Commissioners’ chairman, explained the rationale behind deeming the properties surplus, citing logistical and insurance reasons for focusing on the Bayard Street station as the main operational site. The April 9 meeting of the Board will determine the next steps in the sale process.
