A talented eighth grader from Penn Yan Central School District has secured his spot in the upcoming Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland. Ryan Creary, representing the Wayne-Finger Lakes region, earned his place by correctly spelling “facile” in a regional competition held over the weekend.

Ryan is set to compete against 200 other participants from across the country next month in Baltimore, vying for the prestigious Scripps Cup and a grand prize of $50,000. His journey to the national stage highlights his exceptional spelling skills and brings pride to the local community.

The Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, acting as a regional partner for the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee, supports Ryan’s achievement and his forthcoming participation in the national contest. The community eagerly awaits his performance, hoping for a victorious outcome at one of the most esteemed academic competitions in the country.
