AT&T data breach: More than 70 million total impacted, company says

Over the weekend, AT&T revealed a significant data breach involving sensitive information of approximately 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers found on the dark web. The compromised data includes Social Security numbers and passcodes, with the source of the breach still under investigation.

The Dallas-based telecommunications company has commenced notifying affected customers and has taken steps to secure their information by resetting current users’ passcodes and offering credit monitoring services where necessary.

The breach, which dates back to data from 2019 or earlier, marks another in a series of cybersecurity challenges for AT&T. It underscores the vulnerabilities that come with digital data storage and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures. AT&T customers are advised to look out for official communication from the company regarding the breach and to take protective steps such as changing passwords and monitoring accounts for unusual activity.
