Massachusetts man stole over $30K in stamps in NY, federal prosecutors say

A Massachusetts man, William Soto, 32, of Springfield, was indicted for using fake checks to steal over $30,000 in postage stamps.

Announced by the United States Attorney and the United States Postal Inspection Service, Soto faces twelve charges related to theft from government property.


The indictment reveals that Soto’s crimes occurred in August 2023 across several counties in New York.

If found guilty, Soto could be looking at up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years under watch after his release.

The investigation involves the US Postal Inspection Service and local police, with the case being prosecuted by a special assistant U.S. Attorney.
