High-speed chase ends in flames in Ithaca; suspect in custody

On Wednesday evening a dramatic scene unfolded in Ithaca when a police officer spotted a vehicle speeding dangerously. The driver, attempting to evade the police, ultimately crashed into a house on Cascadilla Street, causing the car to catch fire. Thankfully, the residents were evacuated, and no injuries were reported thanks to the quick response from local emergency services.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Ismanuel Dilan of Ithaca, fled the wrecked vehicle but was quickly apprehended by the police. Dilan was fleeing from an earlier domestic incident where he had assaulted and unlawfully restrained someone, leading to multiple charges against him, including assault and reckless endangerment. The victim of the domestic incident received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Dilan is now facing several serious charges, ranging from felony assault to numerous traffic violations, with further charges pending as the investigation continues. Authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward, assuring that information can be shared anonymously.
