One day before Opening Day, the New York Yankees acquired veteran infielder Jon Berti from the Miami Marlins in a three-team trade that involved the Tampa Bay Rays, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reported.

The Yankees are sending outfield prospect John Cruz to the Marlins and catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Rays, while Tampa Bay is sending Shane Sasaki to Miami to complete the deal.

Burti, 34, hit .294/.344/.405 last season over 133 games. In 2022, he had 41 stolen bases and was caught just five times, the most in MLB. Burti has played everywhere but catcher and pitcher, giving the Yankees plenty of options.

With DJ LeMahieu set to open the season on the injured list, this is a great addition for the Yankees.
