Cortland investigates suspicious banner

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a banner found in a suspicious context in the Town of Preble, calling for public assistance to shed light on the matter. Early in the morning on March 25, law enforcement responded to a report of unusual activity on the Song Lake Crossing Interstate 81 overpass.

Upon their arrival, deputies encountered a banner displayed on the southern side of the overpass bridge, sparking concerns and leading to a thorough examination. The nature of the banner has prompted an investigation to determine its origins and purpose.

The Sheriff’s Office is appealing to anyone with information about the incident, particularly those who witnessed any unusual activities or vehicles in the vicinity of Song Lake Crossing from the evening of March 24 to the early morning of March 25. Community members with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office directly.
