Wayne County nurse indicted for diverting nursing home patient funds

A Rochester nurse, Antia L. Walker, 34, was indicted following allegations of diverting drugs from patients at Demay Living Center and falsifying business records. The State Police from Lyons announced her arrest on Friday, underlining the serious breach of trust and legal violations involved. Walker faces charges that spotlight the misuse of her position within a healthcare facility attached to Newark Wayne Hospital, part of the Rochester General Hospital system.

The indictment accuses Walker of diverting oxycodone from nursing home residents, starting on August 28, 2023, and continuing the illicit activity the following day. Such actions not only breach legal standards but also compromise patient care and safety. Walker’s immediate termination from the nursing home was a direct response to her actions, as the facility sought to maintain the integrity of its patient care services.

Walker’s case was meticulously investigated by the NYS Department of Health before being forwarded to the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges. Following her arraignment in CAP Court, she was released to await further court proceedings.
