Prosecutors say a Geneva man who was convicted of a violent sexual assault at a local store will spend the next several years behind bars.

Donald E. Scott, 37, of Geneva, was sentenced on Thursday to six years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. An Ontario County Jury had found Scott guilty in January 2024 of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and Forcible Touching. His conviction came after he sexually assaulted an employee at the Family Dollar store in Geneva, who was a stranger to him.

The assault occurred while the victim was the only employee in the store. Despite the distressing circumstances, she managed to take photographs of Scott and his vehicle, which led to his identification and arrest by the Geneva Police Department. The case was led by Assistant District Attorneys Kristin Sippel and Kelly Wolford, under Judge Frederick Reed of the Ontario County Court.

Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford commented on the sentencing after it was confirmed. “Everyone should feel safe going to work,” she said. “Donald Scott robbed this woman of that safety in an extraordinarily disturbing way. Obtaining justice in court for this survivor will hopefully assist her in reclaiming what Scott forcibly took for his own sexual pleasure.”
