Ithaca deli receives 2024 Empire Award

Shortstop Deli in downtown Ithaca was celebrated with the 2024 Empire Award by State Senator Lea Webb, recognizing its contribution to the community and excellence in business. Owner Chuck Dong accepted the award, which celebrates business leaders who have significantly contributed to their communities. The deli, a staple in Ithaca since 1978, is known for its fresh, delicious food and commitment to community spirit under Dong’s leadership.


Senator Webb praised the Shortstop Deli for its generosity and role in building the community, highlighting the deli’s famous Hot Truck french bread pizza subs, a tradition carried on by Dong. The award acknowledges Dong’s efforts in continuing the deli’s legacy of serving quality food while contributing positively to the local community and supporting organizations like GIAC and the Learning Web.
