The Seneca Falls Police Department reports the arrest of a brother-and-sister duo following a crash and attempt to cover-up how it unfolded.

Amber L. Garneau, 20, told police she had swerved to avoid a deer, leading to a crash on February 24. However, investigation revealed that it was actually her brother, Matthew Garneau, who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Amber, who had rushed to the scene at her brother’s request, falsely reported herself as the driver, leading to her being charged with falsely reporting an incident.

The following day, Matthew R. Garneau, 22, from Waterloo was arrested in connection with the same accident. Contrary to the initial claim made by his sister, police determined that Matthew had been the actual driver and had subsequently fled the scene. He was charged with conspiracy, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, among other traffic violations, showcasing a misguided attempt to manipulate the accident’s report.

Both siblings now face legal repercussions for their actions. Amber was released on an appearance ticket, while Matthew was held for arraignment.
