An Ithaca-based consultancy, Community Revitalization & Rejuvenation Consultants, has been selected to spearhead the creation of a new economic development strategy for the city. The initiative, aimed at fostering short- and medium-term economic growth, commenced after the city issued a call for proposals in January. The City Council, backing the initiative, approved funding for the project with a budget ranging from $10,000 to $15,000.

The strategy’s development involves collaboration with key local economic development entities, including the Industrial Development Agency, the Local Development Corp., and the Business Improvement District. This collaborative approach is designed to unify stakeholders from the outset, ensuring a cohesive effort towards revitalizing the city’s economic landscape.

The consultancy, led by the father-daughter duo of Gary and Nancy Ferguson, will draw on their extensive experience in community development and finance. The project, expected to conclude in approximately four months from the contract signing, aims to redefine the city’s vision for economic development, leveraging existing comprehensive plans and identifying necessary resources and potential funding sources to realize prioritized actions.
