Truck crashes on I-90 overpass, dangles over edge (photo)

  • Staff Report

A significant incident on I-90 Thursday morning led to a FedEx tractor-trailer hanging precariously over a railing above Pittsford Mendon Center Road, following a collision. New York State Police report that the accident occurred when the FedEx driver sideswiped a car that had broken down on the road, which contained three adults and an infant. All were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, as was the truck driver.

The aftermath of the crash has caused significant traffic disruptions. The eastbound lane of I-90 is experiencing a two-mile backup, and Pittsford Mendon Center Road has been closed between Canfield Road and North Wilmarth Road to manage the situation. Emergency services, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Henrietta Fire Department, New York State Police, and a HAZMAT team, are at the scene dealing with a diesel spill from the truck.

Travelers have been advised to seek alternate routes as the cleanup continues, with the New York State Thruway Authority warning of extended closures into the afternoon. The crash was first announced on social media platform X by the Thruway Authority, urging drivers to avoid the area near exits 45 and 46 of I-90 eastbound.
