Warning: Scam alert in Seneca County

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a scam that’s been targeting residents. People are getting fake letters claiming to be from the “Seneca County Courthouse.” These letters falsely warn of an arrest unless the recipient pays cash bail.

Officials advise everyone to be cautious and not to send money or share bank account or credit card information without being absolutely sure of the recipient’s legitimacy. The scam has fooled people into thinking they’re in legal trouble when they’re not.

If anyone receives such a letter or has already fallen victim to this scam, they’re urged to reach out for help. Investigator James Palmer is the point of contact at the Sheriff’s Office, available at 315-220-3444.

The community is encouraged to verify any suspicious communications with law enforcement to avoid falling prey to such deceitful tactics.
