Ithaca man arrested after months-long investigation into stolen antiques, jewels

Police say a 44-year-old Ithaca man was arrested after a months-long investigation into the larceny of jewelry and antique collectibles at a residence.

Steve Gierlach, 44, of Ithaca was arrested for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as a Class C felony, as well as criminal possession of stolen property.

On January 8, police initiated an investigation into the stolen items, which had been taken from a residence in the city. Through that investigation, Gierlach was identified as the suspect.

On Friday, March 8, a search warrant was served at his residence and place of business. The stolen items were found, police said.

He was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.
