George Santos is running for Congress again after being expelled

George Santos declared his intention to run for New York’s 1st Congressional District, challenging incumbent Rep. Nick LaLota. In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Santos criticized LaLota for not representing true conservative values and jeopardizing the party’s future for personal gain. Santos, who must still petition to get on the ballot, has previously faced expulsion from Congress and various federal charges.

LaLota, a first-term congressman elected in 2022, had earlier called for an ethics investigation into Santos. Responding to Santos’ announcement, LaLota labeled Santos a “pathological liar” and expressed readiness to defeat him in a primary. The rivalry highlights a tense political battle in a district that has seen Republican leadership for nearly a decade.

As Santos aims to reclaim a position in Congress amidst legal and ethical controversies, the political landscape in New York’s 1st Congressional District is set for a heated contest.
