Watkins Glen School Board accepts Athletic Director’s retirement

The Watkins Glen School District’s School Board recently approved the retirement of Rod Weeden, a dedicated administrator serving as Athletic Director, Communications Director, and District Data Coordinator, effective August 15. Weeden, who began his journey with the district 20 years ago as an Elementary School principal, transitioned to his most recent roles 11 years back. Reflecting on his retirement, Weeden shared that he has no immediate plans but is open to new opportunities and is considering relocating closer to his daughter in Astoria, New York, or to family and friends in Arizona.

Throughout his tenure, Weeden significantly contributed to the district’s athletic success, including state titles in girls’ basketball and cross-country, alongside multiple sectional titles across various sports. His leadership not only fostered athletic excellence but also strengthened the district’s communications and data coordination.

As Weeden prepares to step down, he plans to assist with the transition to his successor, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities. The school board and community express their gratitude for his years of service, recognizing the lasting impact of his dedication and leadership on the Watkins Glen School District.
