Tompkins County real estate continues rise: February prices increase 7.8%

Tompkins County’s real estate market showed an increase in the median home listing price to $380,000 in February, a notable rise of 7.8% from January’s figure of $352,639. This upward trend contrasts with a slight decrease compared to the same period last year, with the median listing price dropping by 1% from $368,750 in February 2023. The analysis, derived from Realtor.com data, focuses exclusively on homes listed for sale within the county.


The median size of listed homes stood at 2,030 square feet, with a price per square foot of $190, reflecting a 7.3% increase from the previous year. Homes in Tompkins County also sold more quickly than the national average, staying on the market for a median of 58 days, compared to the national median of 61 days. The county experienced a significant influx of new listings, with 56 homes entering the market in February, marking a 64.7% jump from February 2023.

This local snapshot contrasts with broader state and national trends, where median home prices in New York reached $652,520, and the national median price was $415,500.
