The No. 2 seeded Wayne Eagles knocked off the No. 1 seeded East High Eagles, 48-42, in the Class A finals on Saturday night at the Blue Cross Arena, clinching their second sectional title in three years and sixth overall.

Wayne trailed for a good chunk of the first half before a late run helped give them a 19-14 lead heading into the locker room. The teams traded leads in the third quarter, but Wayne took a 28-26 advantage into the fourth and outscored East 20-16 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.

Cam Blankenberg scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Eagles of Wayne and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He scored 18 of the 20 in the second half and went 12-for-14 from the free-throw line, including six big ones in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

PJ Ostrowski poured in 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Jonah Schichtel knocked down two second-half three-pointers.

Wayne improved to 22-1 on the season and will face the Section VI Class A champion in the Far West Regional next weekend at Buffalo State.
