  • Staff Report

Hornell’s Veterans Memorial Park is set for a significant facelift, with nearly $900,000 allocated for enhancements, including a major overhaul of the pool house and locker rooms. The city’s Board of Public Works has contracted LaChase Construction for the $479,500 project to modernize these facilities at the park, which sees approximately 5,000 visitors annually. The upgrades will introduce a new family bathroom and renovate the changing areas to improve accessibility and the overall visitor experience in time for the summer season.

In addition to the pool house refurbishments, the park will see the introduction of a new splash pad, upgraded basketball and tennis courts, and the addition of pickleball courts, following an $885,000 contract awarded to C.P. Ward. This initiative, supported by a $427,500 state grant, aims to enhance recreational opportunities for the community.

Mayor John Buckley highlighted the project’s focus on improving accessibility and enriching the park’s offerings for residents. With construction set to commence this spring, Hornell’s Veterans Memorial Park is poised to offer a refreshed and more inclusive space for summer activities, ensuring it remains a cherished community resource.
