The Village of Weedsport is set to receive a substantial $16 million in federal loans and grants aimed at modernizing its water infrastructure. Announced by U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, the funding is part of an $82.1 million package from the U.S. Department of Agriculture destined for nine rural communities across Upstate New York to enhance their water systems.

The investment in Weedsport includes $14 million in loans and $2 million in grants. These funds are earmarked for significant improvements within a water district of the village, ensuring residents have access to safe and reliable water services. Senator Gillibrand highlighted the critical nature of this investment, underscoring its importance in providing clean water essential for families, business owners, and farmers.

This funding initiative is part of a broader $770 million effort by the Biden administration to bolster rural infrastructure nationwide. Senator Schumer emphasized that these federal dollars would support crucial water infrastructure upgrades, guaranteeing clean and contaminant-free water for Upstate New York’s rural communities, including Weedsport. This federal backing aims to enhance the quality of life and economic prospects for rural areas, ensuring all New Yorkers have access to the resources they need to succeed.
